VECtor Custom Calls started with one idea in mind: "Each call will be a different bird." What this means, is that each VECtor call is custom-made, by hand, to be different from the last. This will allow the hunter to become a different hen that the Old Boss Tom has never met. The VECtor Custom Calls turkey call slogan is “GOBBLE THIS!”. It depends on the wood of the day as to what I make these
friction calls out of. It is usually coffeebean or cedar, sometimes a little
cherry or walnut if I have it on hand. They have all been tested, and they have
all produced spring gobbler harvests. A dymondwood striker is a specialty that can be hard to find. Dymondwood is difficult to turn to a small diameter, but when one is produced and you peg it up on a friction call, you can produce some of the best turkey talk you have ever heard.
first impression This is the friction call that started it all. The first glass call made as a prototype reads "Crawford Custom Calls." It was from this call that FIRST IMPRESSION was created. The domestic woods that are used to create these calls are from timber boards cut on a family sawmill in eastern Kansas in the 1980's. FIRST IMPRESSION calls are now being made for show, to set on a desktop or fireplace mantle, rather than for the turkey woods. Crawford feels that VECtor SI8te calls are more practical for the turkey woods. The FIRST IMPRESSION calls feature a reflective glass-striking surface that has a turkey footprint etched into the glass. The etched footprint symbolizes the first print made by a Boss Tom as he glides down from his roost each morning. Each FIRST IMPRESSION call comes with a 1 -piece, hand-turned, wooden striker that is made to compliment the looks of the call.
Sl8te This is the friction call that is for use in the turkey woods. Like FIRST IMPRESSION, the domestic woods used to produce SI8te calls are from timber boards cut on a family sawmill in eastern Kansas in the 1980's. The original Sl8te calls were made with a slate striking surface, and a slate soundboard. Sl8te calls are now available with slate, aluminum or glass striking surfaces, and I prefer glass sound boards for most calls. The name for SI8te calls comes from the eight-sided, octagon shape, of the call. Each SI8te call comes with a 1 -piece, hand-turned, wooden striker that is matched to the call to produce optimum turkey vocalizations.
